Cover Story: Seeing Things

In a very special cover story this edition, we present one woman’s personal account of her struggle with anorexia nervosa. Her story describes the damage done by eating disorders and how mental illness can lead to physical harm.

Tom Hawking talks spooks and subterfuge with Argo star Bryan Cranston; Anthony Morris reviews the new Woody Allen flick, To Rome with Love; Chris Flynn catches up with Booker-nominated author, Jeet Thayil; and, in ‘Roving Eye’, photographer Ana Paula Estrada captures the isolation and the intrepid spirit of Queensland’s grey nomads.

This edition’s ‘Vendor Profile’ is Steve from Perth, and we have ‘Streetsheet’ contributions from Owen D, Conrad and Stephen B in Melbourne and from James D in Brisbane. James D is raising money for Movember. Here’s a link to his page on the Movember site.

In very sad news, the Melbourne vendor fondly known as Disco Dave has died. Dave enjoyed selling and writing for The Big Issue and we’ve reprinted his poem ‘Don’t Look at People on the Outside’ from Ed#353 as a tribute. Disco Dave will be missed.
