Helping people help themselves
Our first edition came out in 1996 and now, 18 years later, The Big Issue has reached a milestone: our 450th edition. We’ve come a long way, baby. This issue, we look back at the way we were and ponder the things that have – and haven’t – changed since Edition#1. One thing that remains the same is our purpose. The Big Issue exists for the people who sell it: our vendors.
Also in this issue:
Fiona Scott-Norman recounts her ill-fated experiments with FM radio; Peter Barry describes ditching the drink; Guy Davis investigates how Leonardo DiCaprio became Hollywood’s go-to guy for playing very rich, very flawed characters; Doug Wallen talks to The National’s Matt Berninger on the eve of the band’s Australian tour; and, in ‘Roving Eye’, we present striking images from the 2013 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards.
This edition’s ‘Vendor Profile’ is Steve from Melbourne. And we have ‘Streetsheet’ contributions from Darren in Melbourne, Athol in Sydney, and Cindy and Shane A in Brisbane.
