Helping people help themselves
Was 2016 the year the music died? In this edition we pay tribute to musical icons like Bowie, Prince and Leonard Cohen (as well as many other talents), and we also celebrate how, for a period of time that will always feel too short, they made the world a little more melodious. This edition is reflecting on a year passed: lamenting about the bad stuff; pondering over the weird stuff; smiling over the good stuff. And we take a deep breath and look forward – to 2017.

Our annual Big Quiz is back, ready to test your knowledge about things that have appeared in our pages during 2016; we interview Aussie rappers A.B. Original about their explosive new album; Margaret Atwood talks birds, books and the end of the world; Rosamund Pike talks about being rejected from drama school in Letter to My Younger Self; our arts editors pick their Top 10 books, films, music and home entertainment from 2016; and in The Big Picture, a photographer spectates Australia’s spectators.
The star of this edition’s Vendor Profile is Shane D from Perth.
And, just before Christmas, vendors from Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne hit the streets with footy players and legends (from three codes) for the Big Footy Sales Challenge! Hear what they have to say in Streetsheet.
