Helping people help themselves
Iconic music star Bruce Springsteen is out here on tour (Jan 25 – Feb 18), and we’re celebrating the man and his music. In this issue, we feature a compelling extract from The Boss’ new autobiography Born to Run, and life-long fan Richard Castles explains how Springsteen has helped him through his darkest day. It’s also a very special edition for us: International Vendor Week! To celebrate, our edition is jam-packed with stories from vendors all around the world. We interview vendor Lukas from Melbourne about being his own boss; we have a conversation between vendor Mark from Melbourne and vendor Ann from Denver, Colorado; and we have beautiful pictures and Q&As with vendors from street papers all around the globe, including Fay from Sydney! Plus, the photo for the Vendor Profile this edition was taken by Adelaide vendor Krystal H.
Also in this issue...
Big Issue UK vendor James Bowen writes about how his story that started on the streets turned into a bestselling book, and is now major feature film A Street Cat Named Bob; while Cheryl from Melbourne reveals how her cats saved her life; we have an interview with the Sunnyboys, who are back on tour; and we review Moonlight, the film that recently received eight Oscar nominations.
The star of this edition’s Vendor Profile is Luke M from Adelaide. And in Streetsheet we have contributions from Conrad in Melbourne; David L in Perth; Kerry Anne in Adelaide; and Glenn from Queensland. Susie Longman, our Brisbane vendor support manager, also farewells vendor Adam W, who will be greatly missed. And we also feature a beautiful painting by Lynette from Perth.
