Ed#539 21st Birthday Edition

The Big Issue turns 21! This special anniversary edition celebrates 21 years of The Big Issue, and looks at how far we’ve come since our first edition in 1996. In a special photo series, we share stories of vendors and their regular customers. This jam-packed edition also looks at the significance of 21st birthdays and why they're regarded as such a milestone, and with help from illustrator Michael Weldon, shares a timeline of key events in our history.

Also in this issue...

Ray “Alf Stewart” Meagher talks rugby, boarding school, Home and Away and learning how to act from the tailend of a horse in Letter to My Younger Self. One Direction’s Harry Styles is going his own way with his new solo album. We interview director Terence Davies for his Emily Dickinson biopic A Quiet Passion, starring Cynthia Nixon (from Sex and the City).

The star of this edition’s Vendor Profile is Tom from Brisbane. We have Streetsheet contributions from Dianne and Willy from Melbourne; Laima from Perth WSE and David L from Perth; and Tony H from Adelaide. And in our special photo series, we speak with Donna from Melbourne; Dave S (aka Dundee) and John from Sydney; Vernon from Adelaide; and Julie from Brisbane.
