We are thrilled to announce an increase in circulation over the past 6 months according to the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC).
The latest ABC circulation audit reported that The Big Issue has increased our circulation by 6.3% to 30,846 in the 6 month period ending December 2014.
In a period where many Australian magazines experienced a fall in circulation numbers, it was reassuring to note the increase, a reflection of our continued strength in independent print media.
Readers ongoing support of The Big Issue enables us to provide a hand up to more than 5000 vendors who have sold the magazine since it’s inception in 1996 while endorsing the quality of our editorial content.
The Big Issue CEO Steven Persson said today:
“This increase is a direct result of our vendors doing the hard work of selling The Big Issue magazine, day in and day out - rain, hail or shine. In addition to this, our editorial team producing content that is engaging and informative in a such a competitive climate, is a notable triumph of independent Australian publishing.”
This increase can also be attributed to growth in our digital magazine (launched in 2013) and in our Women’s Subscription Enterprise.
While this recent increase in circulation is heartening, it is vitally important that The Big Issue circulation remains on the increase in order to help Australians who are experiencing disadvantage to help themselves and to continue to provide an independent voice in the Australian media landscape.
