Creative minds, creating change
The Big Issue, Australia’s most successful social enterprise, is inviting university students across Australia to participate in a unique social enterprise competition – The Big Idea.
The Big Idea is no ordinary competition. It is a progressive learning opportunity encouraging the next generation of social entrepreneurs and leaders to foster their creative thinking and employability skills, and develop a social enterprise idea that has the ability to change the lives of thousands of homeless and disadvantaged Australians.
A life-changing journey
Conducted during the second half of the year, ‘The Big Idea’ is a five month journey of inspiring lectures, online seminars and in depth discussions delivered by influential ‘thought leaders’ from across the Australian business sector, including senior executives from Telstra, Australia Post and Origin. Students will also learn from social enterprise practitioners who will share their experiences and help students shape their business plans
Students will hear first-hand accounts from people who have experienced
homelessness and disadvantage, helping them understand the great need for social enterprise solutions to tackle the complex issues faced by an increasing number of Australians every day. At the end of semester 2 students will be asked to submit their business plan for their ‘Big Idea’. The winning team from each university will be invited to present to a judging panel of influential Australian business leaders, tasked with selecting an overall winner.
