Frequently Asked Questions

Can I buy a digital version of The Big Issue?

Yes! Click here to find out all about buying, accessing and reading The Big Issue on your device of choice.

How often is The Big Issue published?

The Big Issue comes out fortnightly.

Where can I find a vendor?

If you live in a capital city you shouldn’t have to go far to find your nearest vendor. Our vendors usually prefer to sell in places with a lot of foot traffic – so have a look around busy shopping areas, malls and restaurants. Keep an eye out for yellow hi-vis vests, red t-shirts and hats. If you’re still finding them hard to spot, contact your local office of The Big Issue and they can point you in the right direction.

I live outside the city in a town where there are no vendors nearby, and I'm missing my fortnightly Big Issue fix. Help!

We have good news: you can now subscribe to The Big Issue and have it delivered to your door every fortnight. Our Women’s Subscription Enterprise employs homeless, vulnerable and disadvantaged women to pack the magazines for distribution to subscribers, giving them an income as well as access to training, mentoring and support.

Is The Big Issue a religious or political magazine?

No and no. We run some articles and opinion pieces relating to current affairs, but we don’t have any religious or political affiliations and we don’t have a religious or political agenda. Our magazine has content ranging from social justice issues, to celebrity profiles. Our purpose is to inform and entertain so that readers will continue to buy the magazine, putting money into the pockets of our vendors.

Can I contribute to the magazine?

Yes! But please read our contributor guidelines before pitching. This will save our time and yours! Once you’ve read the guidelines, send an outline of your ideas to editorial@bigissue.org.au. Please don’t phone us to discuss your pitch: we’re a small team and may not have time to chat. But don’t worry: the pitch you send will get to an editor. If we’d like to follow up your story idea, we’ll get in touch.

Do you have an internship program?

Our editorial team is very small and unfortunately we don’t have the resources to offer a formal internship program. However, if you’re super keen, it won’t hurt to send us your CV and a cover letter. We’ll keep it on file and contact you if a suitable opportunity comes up.

How do I contact the music, DVD, books or film editor?

Send an email to editorial@bigissue.org.au and we’ll forward it to the relevant arts editor.
