Quick Fix: Creative Costume

Dear Quick Fix,

I am a creative person. That’s why I favour a tousled and thought-provoking hairstyle and why I wear kooky glasses and zany jumpers. It’s my way of signalling to the world that I am a free-spirited non-conformist, with lateral and subtly subversive ideas. The problem is that all the other creative people I work with, and compete against, dress the same way. How can I stand out from the crowd?

Kooky Quandary

Dear Kooky Quandary,

There are really only two ways left to be genuinely unconventional. One is to dress old when you are young (and I don’t mean ‘vintage’ old... I mean contemporary old, including orthopaedic footwear). The other is to dress as a different species. Don’t pick a species from the animal kingdom – even Miley Cyrus is dressing in furry suits these days. Go with an obscure bacteria. Plesiomonas shigelloides is a good one.
