Cover Story: Take Me Away – Fiction Edition

This year is the 10th anniversary of The Big Issue Fiction Edition. To celebrate this exciting milestone, we have a bumper issue of creative writing around the theme ‘Take Me Away’. Inside you’ll find Polish grandmothers, post-apocalyptic islands and a woman trying to sell her life in the Trading Post. We have chosen 12 standout stories from more than 400 entries: take a ride through deep heartache, pulse-racing suspense and surprising twists. And this edition we are thrilled to have illustrations from Michel Streich, a talented artist and regular Big Issue contributor. With 16 extra pages, this edition (created with support from the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund) is packed with scintillating writing, beautiful illustrations and, as always, contributions from our vendors.

Also in this issue:

The star of this edition’s ‘Vendor Profile’ is Ronnie from Brisbane. And we have ‘Streetsheet’ contributions from Ken in Melbourne; Ashley in Perth; Bob S, Ron S, Paul H and Andrew W in Sydney; and Sarah in Fremantle. We also have a great picture of vendor Frank and his partner, Tiff (a former vendor), with their beautiful new baby girl, Ruby
