The Big Issue Fiction Edition

It's that time of year again: our annual Fiction Edition is back! This much-awaited special edition is always a highlight on The Big Issue calendar, and this year is no exception.

The 12th Fiction Edition hits the streets on 26 August. It is packed with 12 great reads, written by well-known Australian authors and promising new talent.

This year, readers are in for a real treat. We're excited to share seven stories selected from open submissions, from an incredible pool of almost 350 contenders. We also have work from acclaimed author John Marsden, alongside stories from Miles Allinson, Gregory Day, Tegan Bennett Daylight and Jennifer Down.

By buying a copy for $7, fiction lovers will not only enjoy a great read but support a worthy cause, with $3.50 from each sale going into the pockets of homeless and disadvantaged people.

The edition is on sale from 26 August to 8 September. It is 16 pages longer than regular editions of The Big Issue, thanks to the support of the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund.

The Fiction Edition will launch with a panel discussion at the State Library Victoria, in Melbourne on 26 August. The panel will explore the topic of ‘Literature as a force for good’.

For more details, view the media release here or visit the State Library website.

The panel coincides with an exhibition at the State Library that celebrates the men and women who sell The Big Issue. Artist Virginia Hodgkinson created the series of paintings, which features 17 vendors from around the country. Find more details here
