Brisbane Broncos take out the Sporting Sales Challenge

The Brisbane Broncos have been crowned the champions of The Big Issue’s annual Sporting Sales Challenge.

In December last year players Sam Thaiday and Jaydn Su'A hit the streets of Brisbane’s CBD to sell the special Christmas edition of the magazine, with Big Issue vendor Magoo on hand to show them the ropes.

In just half an hour the duo sold 10 magazines and six 2018 Big Issue calendars, beating seven other teams across men’s and women’s AFL, Super Rugby and the National Netball League.

This week Magoo visited the Broncos headquarters to present Sam and Jaydn with the 2017 Sporting Sales Challenge trophy.

Magoo and The Big Issue team were thrilled when it was placed on a plinth next to the Bronco’s premiership trophies!

The Big Issue would like to say a big thank you to the Broncos and all the teams who took part in the Sporting Sales Challenge – Adelaide Crows Women’s, Brisbane Lions Men’s, Brisbane Lions Women’s, Port Adelaide Football Club, Queensland Firebirds, Queensland Reds and the Adelaide Thunderbirds.

Together they helped shine a spotlight on hundreds of vendors selling The Big Issue on street corners around the country in rain, hail or shine.

The support of sports stars busts myths about homelessness and disadvantage and helps Big Issue vendors reach new customers who will keep coming back for the good content and great cause.

Plus, many vendors are huge sports fans and the Challenge is one of their most anticipated events in the sporting calendar each year.
