We Pay Tribute to the Volunteers Working Hard Behind the Scenes at The Big Issue

To mark National Volunteer Week 2018, The Big Issue would like to say a BIG, heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers who generously give their time, energy and compassion to people in need.

Over the past 12 months a total of 544 volunteers put in an extraordinary 4,009 hours of work in support of homeless, marginalised and disadvantaged people.

Most of our volunteers come from our corporate supporters who, along with helping The Big Issue in many ways, lent us their most valuable resource: their employees.

Here are some of the ways volunteers support us throughout the year:

 

Vendor breakfasts

An army of volunteer cooks served 2,520 hot breakfasts to our street vendors at the fortnightly magazine launch and vendor breakfasts around the country.

And a vendor breakfast wouldn’t be complete without some Big Issue aprons, modelled here by volunteers Danielle, Prue and Daniel from Origin Energy.

 

Women’s Subscription Enterprise call centre

Origin volunteers help run our Women’s Subscription Enterprise call centre in the Big Issue’s offices.

Volunteers like Jane and Cathy provide great customer support to subscribers and training to our women.

 

Street soccer training

Volunteers join our street soccer players for a friendly kick at training sessions all around Australia.

Volunteering at street soccer is great fun and good exercise, as you can see from the looks on these Salesforce staff who volunteered (and played) in Sydney.

Our street vendors, Women’s Subscription Enterprise employees and Street Soccer players love engaging with volunteers. By giving their time to The Big Issue community, your staff are making a real difference in the lives of homeless, disadvantaged and marginalised people.
