A message from Steve who is doing the Bridge to Brisbane to raise funds for The Big Issue

My name’s Steve and I’ve been a Big Issue vendor for the last five years now.

The Big Issue is a big part of my life and has been a massive help in improving my social anxiety because I’m out and about every day, dealing with crowds and talking to my customers.

I have become much more comfortable in myself and now I really enjoy the conversations I get to have with people.

Working as a Big Issue vendor means that people recognise what I’m doing. I can really feel that people respect that I’m working, which has helped my self-esteem.

This will be my third Bridge to Brisbane.

I walked with The Big Issue team in 2016, but last year we didn’t have a team so one of my lovely customers Melissa paid for my entry and sponsored me herself. This year I’m excited to do Bridge to Brisbane with Melissa and the rest of The Big Issue team.

I love the atmosphere of the Bridge to Brisbane. There are always so many different people getting involved – and sometimes the odd celebrity! It’s a beautiful walk and it’ll be great to be a part of The Big Issue team again.

This year I’m aiming to raise $1,500 for The Big Issue – and I’m halfway there! Please donate to our Bridge to Brisbane team because it’s a worthy cause. I’ve become friends with the other vendors and they are good people.

Steve is one of the Big Issue vendors doing Bridge to Brisbane to raise money for The Big Issue, so we can keep supporting homeless and disadvantaged people. All donations raised will support the work of The Big Issue in Queensland – and people who need a hand up.
