Big Issue Vendors do City2Surf, Raise Over $21,000!

Last Sunday Big Issue street vendors triumphantly crossed the City2Surf finish line, having raised more than $21,000 for The Big Issue in NSW.

Vendor Drew was first over the line, in under two hours, vendor Charles (pictured below) finished in style, dressed as Elton John, and seven vendors took part for the very first time.

Here’s what Team Big Issue achieved on Sunday:

20 vendors doing City2Surf
16 staff and supporters
504 kilometres
630,000 steps
$21,872 raised so far

The generous donations to Team Big Issue will make a difference to homeless, marginalised and disadvantaged people in New South Wales. They will help The Big Issue provide life-changing support and opportunities to people who are trying to break the cycle of poverty.

Jacob (pictured above) was all smiles as he finished City2Surf: “I was so delighted about the whole day, and just that I did City2Surf. I was really happy about whole thing and that everyone was there. Crossing the finish line was an end to the pain, but it was just amazing. It’s the best thing, I can’t wait till next year already. Thanks to everyone who supported me and the team.”

If you’d like to give a little more to Team Big Issue, it’s not too late. You can still donate here and gifts $2 and over are tax deductible.
