Australia’s Mayors become Big Issue vendors for a day

More than 20 Lord Mayors and Mayors around the country downed tools to sell copies of The Big Issue with street vendors last week.

The Mayors put in a brilliant effort when they hit the streets in their communities, selling 150 magazines between them.

More importantly, they highlighted the hard work of vendors and the life-changing opportunities that The Big Issue provides.

By taking part in Mayor Selling, local leaders are introducing The Big Issue to new readers who will keep coming back for a good read and great cause, putting more money into vendors’ pockets.

Local governments also support The Big Issue year-round by helping to set up regular ‘pitches’ where vendors can sell the magazine and build a loyal customer base.

Well done to all the Lord Mayors and Mayors who took part in the event. As our vendors know, selling the magazine is a tough but rewarding gig, and one that takes a lot of grit and determination.

Thanks for getting out on the street and giving it your best shot!
