The Big Issue Sports Sales Win

Throughout the first week of December, sports teams across the nation went head to head in a different kind of match – The Big Issue Sports Sales Challenge!

Six teams from AFL, NRL, soccer and cricket were challenged to see who could sell the most copies of The Big Issue magazine. Selling alongside a vendor teams had 30 minutes to try their luck and experience what it’s like to sell the magazine.

Congratulations to Justin Westhoff and Port Adelaide FC for taking out the title this year with six magazines and two calendars sold! All together the teams sold 12 magazines and 11 calendars, an amazing achievement!

The Big Issue/Homes for Homes CEO Steven Persson says, “Sport is an incredible way of bringing people together and strengthening communities.

“Having the clubs participate in the selling challenge is a wonderful way for our vendors to reach new customers and connect to their community.”

Events like this are a great opportunity to break down stereotypes of homelessness and disadvantage, and encourage members of the community to meet their local vendor and pick up a copy of the magazine. Each new customer provides a chance to earn an income, which is particularly helpful during the festive season.

We thank the following teams for their participation and support throughout the challenge:

NRL
Brisbane Broncos
AFL/AFLW

Port Adelaide FC
Adelaide Crows

Cricket
Adelaide Redbacks

SANFL
South Adelaide

Soccer
Newcastle Jets
