Update: COVID-19 27/3/2020

Due to the increasing risks of COVID-19 and in the best interests of the safety and wellbeing of our vendors, staff, customers and the general public, The Big Issue has made the decision to suspend operations of The Big Issue street magazine enterprise from close of business today Friday 27 March.

Recognising the significant impact the COVID-19 situation is having on our vendor group, The Big Issue has launched an online version of the magazine, which is now available for purchase each fortnight at the same price point of $9.

Show your support - purchase a copy here

It’s the same fortnightly magazine you know and love, filled with the latest stories, interviews and vendor content, delivered immediately to your device. You can even buy back copies – plenty of reading to get you through self-isolation!

Importantly, as per our street magazine model, money raised from sales of the digital version of the magazine will go back to helping our vendors. These funds will be accumulated and used to provide much needed support to our vendor group.

The Big Issue vendor support offices will remain operational at this stage, to allow vendors to process full refunds on any unsold magazines. Our vendor support staff will also continue to support our vendor group, including checking in regularly and ensuring they are aware of and are connected to appropriate services during this time.

We are continuing to receive an incredible amount of support from our readers and partners during this challenging period. We have seen a surge in subscriptions, donations and messages of support - we thank you for your acts of generosity and kindness so far, it all goes towards assisting and supporting our vendors.

We encourage you to spread the word to your networks and continue supporting the most vulnerable in our community in the other following ways:

1. Subscribe to the magazine. Subscriptions are available on a month-to-month basis through The Big Issue website, with a hard copy of the newest edition delivered to your door each fortnight.

2. Donate to The Big Issue. Donating online is another way to support us as we continue to develop ways to help our vendors during this unsettling time. Donations are tax-deductable and can be made online through our website.

3. Spread the love. Social connection is one of the most important parts of selling The Big Issue magazine and is so important for the wellbeing of our community. If you’d like to send a message to your local vendor, please email submissions@bigissue.org.au and we’ll do our best to pass it on to your nominated vendor.

Thank you for your continued support as we work through these challenging and unprecedented times together.
