The Big Issue is now online!

The Big Issue has launched a digital version of its much-loved magazine, to help support vendors in need amidst the COVID-19 crisis. 

The new digital magazine allows loyal readers to enjoy each edition online, with the knowledge their purchase is still supporting the most vulnerable in our community.

The Big Issue magazine - usually sold on the streets across Australia by those experiencing homelessness, marginalisation and disadvantage – can now be accessed on-demand, direct to any device, for the same price of $9.

Half of the funds raised from each digital edition sale will go into a newly established Hardship Fund, which will provide immediate relief to at-risk vendors and long-term support to help vendors get back on their feet.

The digital launch comes as The Big Issue’s well-known street selling model is temporarily suspended, due to the increasing risks of COVID-19 – leaving vendors unable to work. 

The Big Issue CEO Steven Persson said: “We are seeing the very real impact the COVID-19 crisis is having on those living on the margins, including our Big Issue vendors.

“As Australians turn to self-isolation during these unprecedented times, we needed to create new opportunities for the community to support our vendors, while also finding a way to deliver the same quality product to our readers at home.

“The digital version is the same iconic magazine readers know and love, filled with vendor stories, interviews, reviews, recipes and more.

“But importantly, all digital magazine purchases will help provide immediate financial support to our most vulnerable vendors during this challenging time, while also helping vendors get back on their feet once street selling resumes.”
