The Big Issue has launched a new workshop for tertiary students to gain an insight into homelessness and disadvantage in Australia.

The brand new Speaker Series aims to broaden tertiary students’ perspectives through real-life stories of homelessness and disadvantage, and help students understand how disadvantage and marginalisation impact the customers and clients they may encounter in their careers

The Series is a unique, real-world learning opportunity, tailored to focus on areas relevant to students’ fields of study. Led by a skilled facilitator, students will learn of the causes and impacts of disadvantage and marginalisation and how to consider these things in their future careers, building an inclusive and empathetic outlook.

The highlight of each booking is a guest speaker who shares their experience of disadvantage, and focuses on their interactions with professionals from students’ discipline areas. Better yet, each session provides a paid work opportunity for a guest speaker experiencing disadvantage.

The Speaker Series is part of The Big Issue Education Programs, designed to help primary, secondary and now tertiary students understand and break down issues of homelessness and disadvantage in Australia, and better understand the unique role of social enterprise in addressing some of Australia’s most critical social issues.
